THE MAN BEHIND THE LENSE
#JohnnyNunezGotAllThePictures
Harlem, New York (July 21, 2023) - Every picture tells a story, but who has the access to capture the unseen and exclusive moments? Meet today's living legend, celebrity photographer, Johnny Nuñez. The man behind the artists Beyoncé, President Barack Obama, Drake, and filmmaker/music journalist Questlove just to name a few. Early this year, Nuñez launched his photography website, JohnnyNunez.com, making available some of the most iconic history-making images captured during his 25 years of photojournalism. This long-awaited access to Johnny's photography archives will be a valuable resource to music fans and collectors as the nation celebrates 50 Years of Hip-Hop Music and its hallmark moments.
As the official Afro-Latino photographer recognized by all major publications and mainstream media outlets, Nuñez has single-handedly captured, disseminated, and made urban culture a part of mainstream society. Nuñez is known for his rapid-fire flash-and-click photo style and is well beloved by the stars he takes shots of on the streets, in the clubs, and at private invite-only galas. He is also the first Afro-Latino photographer to have a full wall exhibition displayed by the Grammy Awards. Simultaneously, he became the first official Afro-Latino photographer hired by the Grammy Awards to document the red carpet and private green rooms. This is a barrier-breaking and crown achievement for Nuñez and all photographers trying to elevate their careers. “We belong in these rooms, we created so many of the music forms, so we need to be part of documenting these moments too,” he says. “I feel great that I’m pushing this narrative and getting our genres into new spaces with our images.”
A long-time grandfathered contributor to Getty Images, Nuñez has introduced many creatives, producers, and executives, linking them on red carpets which have led to music and film collaborations beyond his wildest dreams. “I’ve elevated a lot of careers. I was adopted and we were poor,” he says of his family. “My adoptive mom was an amazing connector while selling Avon. She would connect neighbors who needed things for people to survive day-to-day. That taught me that your network is your net worth.”
Getting the accolades for his career is a joy, but being able to open doors for photographers on the come-up is his real reward. “I just want those coming behind me to experience more and gain access to more- That’s my mission," states Nunez.

THE SOJOURNER TRUTH PUBLIC-ARTWORK REVEAL
A Private Preview before Casting
Truth’s Sixth-Generation Grandson to Attend
(Yonkers, NY) January 28, 2020 - Sculptor Vinnie Bagwell will host a private “Preview” of her 7’ sculpture of abolitionist Sojourner Truth on Friday, January 31, at her studio located at 92 Main Street, Loft 204, Yonkers, NY. Guests will have a rare opportunity to observe the sculpture before it is sent off for bronze casting. Ms. Bagwell’s special guest will be Sojourner Truth’s sixth-generation grandson, Cory Mcliechey. Ms. Bagwell states, “when I won the commission, Cory flew in from Michigan to see it at the beginning and I’m delighted he is returning to see it again before it goes to cast. I am an advocate of experiential learning, and my outreach efforts draw the community-at-large into the creative process.”
New York State Office of Parks, Recreation, and Historic Preservation commissioned the sculpture for the Walk Over the Hudson (the world’s longest pedestrian bridge) Welcome Center in Poughkeepsie, NY. The finished artwork will be permanently installed this spring. Other invited quests for the reveal will include New York State, Westchester County, Poughkeepsie and Yonkers officials, community-based organization administrators, and members of the community.
Ms. Bagwell recently won “Victory Beyond Sims”, a $1M public-art commission to replace the J. Marion Sims sculpture removed from Fifth Avenue at 103rd Street. She is also working on casting the fifth life-sized bronze sculpture for the Enslaved Africans’ Rain Garden–an urban-heritage sculpture garden to honor the first enslaved Africans to be freed by law in The United States, 64 years before the Emancipation Proclamation. The Enslaved Africans’ Rain Garden will be installed on the shore of the Hudson River in Yonkers, later this year. Two of the finished bronzes are on view at the Yonkers Riverfront Library.
Ms. Bagwell’s other public artworks in New York include the first public artwork of a contemporary African-American woman, “The First Lady of Jazz Ella Fitzgerald” installed at the Yonkers Metro-North/Amtrak station in Yonkers and “Frederick Douglass Circle” installed at Hofstra University in Hempstead, Long Island.
